FORD DAY AT WHITEWEBBS MUSEUM ENFIELD APRIL 2008.
The eighth Classic Ford Day to be precise. As a club we have attended every event with exception to Number One! Another good showing this year by club members. Four V8 Pilots and one Lincoln Zephyr V12. My Pilot made an appearance to start off the thirty fourth year in my ownership. The first rally I ever went to was a John Carter Ford Rally at Shottesbrooke near Maidenhead. The Pilot has been out every year since at various rallies. Alan Biggs arrived in his black Ford Pilot. Alan is a regular museum attender and also had his Mark Two Zephyr on display. An interesting car that was made into a Vanguard model, which Alan was very pleased with. Colin Biggs also attended the show. Vic and Rosemary Cook and family came along from Cambridge in their green V8 Pilot and shortly afterwards Steve Garton and family in his green Pilot. Steve had his box of spanners out earlier in the week as he had to fit an overhauled water pump so he could attend the show. Colin Spong completed the line up in his blue Lincoln Zephyr V12 Saloon. This car spent many years in Belgium but was originally an English registered RHD car. As Colin was parking a woman rushed up and asked what the Lincoln Zephyr was and said she had never seen one. I told her what the car was and said it was not surprising you had not seen one as they are a very rare car!
Although the day started well rain came down midmorning but did stop mid afternoon so did not spoil the day completely. We had a chance to have a committee meeting in the restaurant. The Museum is now vastly improved. The Fire Station is now completed and houses the Enfield club vintage appliances, and surrounding buildings also look much better now the building work has finished. Praise must be given to the Enfield club for their determination to finish a massive club project. Let us remember they are all volunteers!
We were joined at the show by Mark Farmer, Andy Maclean, Mick and Sally Gamble, Bob Latham, Bob Barnard , Lewis Banyard and Alan Oakley.
A good mix of Fords formed the rest of the show. Y&C Register cars, Ford Sidevalve Club, Mk1 , 2 &3 Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiacs were to be seen. A couple of Thunderbirds 56 & 64 plus two Mustangs, one a Bullitt replica. Some Mk1 Escorts Cortina 1600E and late Capris on display but not many. In the end an unrestored 2.8 injection Mk 3 Capri won Best in Show with the Cortina 1600E runner up. Both nice examples. When you consider the amount of Cortina Mk 2 1600Es there used to be at shows fifteen or so years ago and at this show there was only one, the V8 Pilots now outnumber them! It is a strange world.
My thanks to all club members who made the effort to attend the show.
