Road Run 2008

The original idea was to hold a two day event in the North Midlands to encourage more members in the area to take part, however, a combination of high fuel prices plus some attrocious weather conditions reduced the vehicle numbers for the run on Saturday to just three.

Geoff and Sheila Smith, Godfrey and Ann-Marie Cohen and Andrew Gamble, Sally Gamble and myself all met at the Shardlow Service Area,

on the Leicestershire/ Derbyshire border.

We set off at 12.30 prompt in driving rain, the route took us through the Derbyshire Dales passing on the way, the JCB World Headquarters at Rocester, Ashbourne, Carsington Water, Cromford, Matlock, Chatsworth House and Chesterfield.

We spent the evening at a hotel near Mansfield and were joined by Club President Chris Sanders and John and Jenny Blower.

After breakfast on the Sunday morning we headed on to the Crich Tramway Museum to join in their Forties Weekend, Peter Scales and Karl Green joined us with their V8 Pilots.

This years winners of the Midlands Area Shield were Godfrey and Ann-Marie Cohen with their 1936 Model 62.

Special thanks must go to Andy Gamble for his efforts behind the camera on what can only be described as torrential rain conditions, and thanks to those members who took part on a very wet weekend.
